PRE-CONFERENCE SESSIONS

Pre-Conference Sessions are additional teaching sessions led by friends of Revoice and must be added on to registration. Make sure you purchase tickets here to attend!

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | PARENTS

Join Bill Henson and his team at Posture Shift for a time of connection, encouragement, and support for parents of LGBTQ+/SSA individuals.

We’ll answer questions, learn from experts in the field, and build connections you can foster throughout the conference. For the first time ever, we’re offering this pre-conference online as well!

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA ONLY

We grow up watching movies, hearing songs, and reading stories that connect with us. Sometimes they represent us directly, sometimes incompletely, but often it’s in the stories we engage with that our own stories make more sense.

Join Bekah Mason and some beloved friends as we share stories and media that help us make light of our own stories. We’ll engage these stories together, breaking into discussion groups, and explore in the rich work of being seen and known.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | MINISTRY LEADER/ALLY

So many Christians believe they have to choose between loving Jesus and loving their LGBTQ+/SSA/ Congregants/Neighbors. But what if loving Jesus means loving our LGBTQ+ congregants/neighbors? What if Jesus loves our LGBTQ+/SSA/ congregants/neighbors?

Our pre-conference will explore how biblical faithfulness and pastoral sensitivity kiss in the gospel, and produce discipleship and dignity for all.

SESSION 1

Note: Some speakers may not be featured on our website due to requested privacy and anonymity.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, PASTORS (GOOD FOR NEXT GEN)

What limits has God set for us and what limits do we set for ourselves? Join us in a community conversation where we explore the difference between true limits (which are God-given) and false limits (which claim to be from God but are not). Using Genesis 3 as a frame, we’ll reflect together on how to make determinations for wise and godly living.

  • RESTRICTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA ONLY (GOOD FOR NEXT-GEN)

Join us for a conversation with a panel of folks from various backgrounds who will share more about their bi/pan experiences. They will also share insights that have emerged from previous Revoice bi/pan affinity gatherings. The panel will answer your questions and share some things they wish they had been asked about!

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | PASTORS, LGBTQ+/SSA

While most American Christians pursue kinship primarily through marriage and children, David and TJ (from Communion and Shalom) offer fresh perspectives on belonging, community, and covenant that expand the imaginative possibilities for how we can build solidarity and mutuality in our lives. Come discover what it means to find and build kinship as we consider historical and Biblical precedents and think through the practical applications for our own lives.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | ALLIES, LGBTQ+/SSA

Our Bay Area Revoice chapter is an example of the way God-chosen family can be incredibly diverse. We’ll discuss how it can be difficult but richly rewarding to build deep relationships across deep differences - age, ethnicity, and otherwise. We'll encourage others in forming a community that reflects the beloved community of Jesus.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS)

It can seem downright impossible to be LGBTQ+/SSA and a practicing Christian, particularly when we see no examples that reflect our experience. This presentation will guide attendees through a list of holy folks in the history of the Church: from “The Jesse Tree” of Christ’s genealogy all the way to more modern people of the 20th century. After considering both historical evidence and relevant commentary, this session will suggest connections between the lives of these saints and ways that LGBTQ+/SSA folks today make sense of their experience.

| Thursday 3:00 - 4:00 PM

SESSION 2
  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, ALLIES (GOOD FOR NEXT-GEN)

“Why did it take me so long to admit to myself that I'm gay/SSA?" Through a personal story, we'll explore the journey of facing and overcoming the barriers that stand in the way of knowing our true selves. We'll discover ways to work against denial.

  • RESTRICTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA ONLY (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS)

In Ephesians 2:10, the word translated "masterpiece" is the Greek word poiēma, from which we get our English word "poem." Join Amy and Michelle for an engagement of poetry. Utilizing samples from queer poets past and present, we will discuss the use of poetry for processing one's experience, how poetry can bring shape and meaning to our lives, and how the medium of poetry is particularly well-suited to exploring the tensions, dissonance, and even mystery when discussing the relationship between queer experience and theology.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | PASTORS, LGBTQ+/SSA

Christian campus ministers at secular colleges and universities face unique opportunities and challenges in working with LGBTQ+/SSA students while holding a traditional theology of sex and marriage. Come hear from a panel of campus ministers who are navigating a path of loving students, loving Jesus, and seeking to better understand their own faith journeys as well.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, ALLIES

We’ll seek to understand the relationships between Beauty, Love, and Life, and how these relationships form a natural framework for stewarding our sexualities in harmony with the Creator. We will survey our hearts and affections, consult Scripture, and explore what it all reveals about the God who loves us, and how, in return, we are to love God and creation. "So that we might bear fruit, fruit that will last." (John 15:16)

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | PASTOR, ALLIES (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS)

Discover how to navigate your church with practical wisdom to become full of grace and truth, a loving community where LGBTQ+/SSA people feel wanted and become the masterpieces that God desires.

| Friday 1:30 - 2:30 PM

SESSION 3
  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | PASTORS, ALLIES (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS)

As we support and advocate for our LGBTQ+/SSA siblings in Christ, we receive so much in return—friendship, mutual encouragement, personal growth in faith, and so much more. Join Executive Director Rev. Michelle Sanchez and a panel of straight pastors and allies for a conversation on the joyful gifts of allyship!

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA ONLY

Our convictions often invite us into a future brimming with unexpected twists, As God's masterpiece creations, purpose unfolds in surprising and transformative ways, challenging our preconceived ideas about a lifelong celibate journey with Jesus. In this session, we'll explore an individual's unconventional path, shattering traditional notions of Christian living, from youth and well into celibate adulthood and senior years.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, ALLIES (GOOD FOR NEXT-GEN)

"Coming out" can be tricky at any age. This breakout will explore the realities of vulnerability and safety needed to share our stories with our communities. Ashe Glenister will share frameworks to consider in fostering hopeful connection with those we love.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, ALLIES

One unique identity that some LGBTQ+/SSA folks have is being Mixed (multiethnic). As we learn more about our individual ethnic stories, we can better "paint" a picture of God's goodness as a master artist. As we think about Jesus' own Mixed identity, we learn more about how he has created us as beautiful and whole. Let's gather to discuss and celebrate how we are an important part of God's beautiful creation.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, PASTORS

Sexuality and desire can often feel like oppressive forces that hold us down and disconnect us from ourselves, others and Christ. How do we grow as we abide in God's grace? In this workshop, we will explore avenues of pursuing sexual wholeness through releasing shame, healing our stories, and embracing intimacy.

| Friday 3:00 - 4:00 PM

SESSION 4
  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA (GOOD FOR NEXT-GEN)

This breakout will cover Attachment Theory as it relates to LGBTQ+/SSA individuals. We will cover what attachment styles are, how to be in relationship with others in healthy ways, healing insecure attachments, and how to care for others with insecure attachments. We’ll have a healthy dose of laughter as we’ll point us towards joy to combat the shame that might arise.

  • RESTRICTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA ONLY

Our unique experiences as LGBTQ+/SSA Christians can be especially complicated when we feel like minorities within our own community. Come hear from members of our community as they share a variety of experiences of being a "minority within a minority." We'll seek to understand their experience and identify ways we can make this community kinder to all.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, PASTORS

The metaphors out of which we live impact how we interpret information and make decisions. But no metaphor is a perfect fit, and therefore it is unwise to live one's life by a singular metaphor. What are the metaphors by which Christian sexual and gender minorities might understand ourselves (as leaven, Gentiles, eunuchs? as sufferers, mutants? as prophets, superheroes?), and how might they equip us for--or prevent us from---living lives of faithfulness to Christ?

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | LGBTQ+/SSA, PASTORS (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS)

In this session, we look at both celibacy and marriage as what the monastic tradition has called a “school of love” that forms us to give, receive and experience love in life with others. We’ll explore from both celibate and married perspectives what it looks like to discern the way of life that best nurtures and supports who God is creating you to be so you can walk in the good works God has prepared for you.

  • SUGGESTED AUDIENCE | ALLIES, PASTORS (GOOD FOR NEWCOMERS AND NEXT-GEN)

Join Misty Irons as she talks about what it looks like to walk alongside LGBTQ+/SSA Christians in friendship and discipleship, giving practical advice drawn from her own experience.
